Flying Drones

While thinking about a new drone for the Lexus eco-challenge, I referred back to the spreadsheet I made last year already about flying drones. I looked at all of the ones already typed in as well as potential new candidates. It was hard, as a lot of the drones didn't meet the requirements we need.

First, I looked at some aqua drones, but quickly realized they wouldn't be able to get the rest of the terrain, or get out of the water. There were other good candidates, but they were too heavy, couldn't do the job properly, or just couldn't work on swampy terrain. We need a nice, heavy-duty drone that can take care of just about anything. Eventually, I found one I think will work well for the Lexus Eco Challenge.

The DR1000 drone appears to be the best one found so far. It comes with its own laboratory. It can also detect and monitor many chemicals, dust, and can even get a direct flare plume sampling. Of course, it's also waterproof, and has thermal imaging. It takes about 5 seconds to contain 1 liter of water and has a life of 2.5 hours. With all around pluses, and cost not being an issue. I think this is the flying drone perfect for our Lexus eco-challenge.
